Avalonian Composer in residenceNick Harrison was born on 26th August 1937, which makes him a contemporary of Steve Reich and Terry Riley. He spent time as a boy on the East coast of Scotland where he started to compose tunes and songs in Gaelic on Scottish Radio in a Children's Hour programme.

Later he learned to play violin and developed a keen interest in 20th Century classical music. An interest in composition led him into working as an arranger with the Rolling Stones and Joe Cocker.

Nick Harrison - ComposerHe has written classical pieces including a String Quartet and The Nagual and the Tonal for Oboe and 11 string players, which was performed at Wells Cathedral.

Other classical compositions include Dark Woods for Orchestra and a Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.

Nick is presently recording a CD of songs with singer Oshia Drury. He has two CDs currently on release - The Silent Forest in collaboration with several other musicians, including the guitarist Michael Clark; and the Curlieu with special guest John Wilkes (flute).
