Glastonburymusic now has a mailing list. The instructions on how to join are given below. The purpose of the list is to create a space for things like gig announcements, PA requests and general discussion of music-related stuff. All are welcome. Spam and abusive behaviour such as you may have encountered on other lists will not be tolerated.
The sign-up process is reasonably straightforward, if a little antequated.
Send an email to Majordomo@glastonburymusic.org.uk and put

help
You will receive an email that requires you to confirm your subscription, follow the instructions carefully and you will then be able to send and receive mailings from the list. If you have any problems with this interface, please contact us directly so we can help you sort it out with the minimum of fuss. This process is necessary to prevent us all getting spammed to high heaven, it should only take five or ten minutes of your time. Hopefully we can all increase our levels of communication and productivity this way. Please also take some time to read the rest of the notes on this page. Thanks. :-)
Before we actually give you any sensible contact information, please take the time to read these notes about correct use of email and how to get useful answers. You may notice that the mailto: addresses on the front page are all b0rked, there's a reason for that :-) There's a limit to the amount of spam that I'm prepared to deal with, especially when it comes from crawler robots where no human being has actually read the page. This can lead to hilarious results:
This came from a site dedicated to Constipation and other health matters. I'm not sure whether to be flattered or flatulent (parp). So if you really want to contact the site directly email:
@glastonburymusic.org.uk. Obviously you need to edit the string appropriately :-) Please understand that some days we receive 100+ emails, not all generated by this site admittedly. Filtering out the 90% of 'noise' from genuine exchanges can take the best part of the morning, just to get to the information we need to reply to. Please try not to add to the 'noise' - Thanks.
Please don't EVER reproduce this address in any machine readable format. We hate bots.
Please don't use the Cc: box in your mailer, this just gives out a nice long list of email addresses for anyone & everyone to spam - Please use Bcc: instead, which hides the list from the recipient, unless you really need to Cc: (mostly you don't).
Remember all the information you send over the internet, except for specifically Secure Transactions, is IN THE OPEN - anyone can read it along with lots of information about who you are, what computer and browser you are using. Probably what you're looking at and where you spend your money also. Don't get complacent about this, especially if you use Windows(TM), it is particularly vulnerable to security violations.
Of course there's not just spam on the internet, there's DangerSpam too. Plenty of interesting executables get delivered every day. Best practice is:
The quality of response you get in any given situation is directly related to the quality of the questions you ask. Before you start with any questions at all - Go Look It Up In A Search Engine. Google is a good place to start for most searches, it's also worth checking out our links to other useful organisations page. Search Engines have their own query language, it's worth getting to know how this works in order to get to the information you want more quickly. Please read our aims page if you want us to link to you or include your project on the website.
A rather geeky, but nonetheless invaluable source of reference is Eric Raymond's FAQ pages and Slashdot is also worth checking for more general computer related info.
Don't assume that anyone remembers who you are, what you do or how your computer is set up. Also don't assume that because You spoke to someone in RL that they'll remember you from an email address :-) Never work with Hippies.
Please DO remember to post information about gigs, releases & suchlike. Any little tidbits we can use to create greater exposure for your project. Occasional reminders are probably a good idea. Daily reminders are NOT required.
We do actually welcome communication from anyone who has read the site and takes an active interest in what we are trying to do. Apologies if this page has turned out rather severe, spam is an annoying problem that can threaten services. We are particularly interested in comments on the site - bug reports, feature requests, that sort of thing, as well as more general discussion and queries about the content of the site, things that worked for you or not and other information we can pass on to other users of the site. Of course financial donations would be equally well received - the whole site currently goes out for free and we'd like to keep it that way - and also contributions in the form of reviews, graphics, photos and soundbites are always welcome.-)
We look forward to hearing from you
