What's it all for?

Aims and Guidelines

This site is intended to promote the wealth of original musical talent and creativity that stems from the Isle of Avalon (uk) and the local Glastonbury area.

Everything on this site is for FREE. i.e. don't give us anything that you aren't happy to give away.

For this reason we recommend keeping soundbites short (1 minute approx) and limited bandwidth - radio quality edits at 64KB/s and 22KHz seems to produce listenable results and still keep file sizes downloadable <500KB if at all possible. We have now started to offer CD quality streaming audio for a selected few 'singles of the month'. These go out unedited in stereo at 44KHz and can be <10MB.

You have to pretty much live and work within the sight of the Tor (give or take a few tall buildings) to be included on this site. We may be prepared to make exceptions in truly exceptional circumstances, be prepared to state your case :~)

It is hoped that the site may also become a kind of networking hub for the musical community of this town, providing easy access to the whole range of skills, services and creative talents in the area and to act as a springboard and meeting place for many other related projects and internet sites.

To this end we are building a database of musicians, skills and resources, which will hopefully be accessible online later in the year, allowing for Glastonbury Maybe Time. If you wish to be included on this database and/or our e-mailing list Drop us a Line.

Dreams & Wishes

This whole site has been made so far using borrowed time & equipment. We are very grateful to the Glastonbury Institute of Gracious Living, for providing much of the hardware and technical support, Glastonbury Assembly Rooms and ImpulseMusic for the loan of computers and to Glastonbury Online for the webspace.

We now have our own computer setup thanks to donations from the community - thanks to everyone who has contributed in one way or another specifically MicroBitz in Wells for the new base system, which we're rapidly turning into a free Digital Audio Workstation when we're not editing the website. We've just migrated to an entirely Open Source environment (Debian/GNU/Linux). Any offers of bits of computer stuff would be gratefully accepted at this point, particularly a printer and scanner and a decent quality stereo microphone for recording purposes - a pair of PZMs would also be acceptable. We can probably configure most stuff so long as it's in basic working order. We also accept money :-)

Long term we are looking to form close networking links with people in the community who have the time energy and expertise to offer as agency, recording label, product manufacturers, equipment sale, hire and repairs, publishers, distribution, promotion, crewing, transport, art & design, merchandising, legal stuff or venues.
